Sonography in PCMC | Shrusti Total Womens Care Clinics

Shrusti Total Womens Care Clinics in Thergaon, PCMC, offers sonography under Dr. Nikhil A. Mahadar, MRCOG (UK), including dating, NT, anomaly, growth, Doppler, 3D/4D, pelvic sonography and follicular study scans, performed personally at the same visit.

Why Same-Visit Sonography Matters

Sonography in PCMC generally works on a referral model. The gynaecologist writes a prescription for a scan, the patient books a separate appointment at a diagnostic centre, waits for a written report, then returns for a follow-up consultation to have it explained. At Shrusti Total Womens Care Clinics, Dr. Mahadar performs the scan himself during the same consultation, which changes three things.

  • No second appointment. The scan happens in the same room as the consultation, not a separate booking days later.
  • No waiting for a report. Mahadar reviews the images directly and can explain the findings immediately.
  • One doctor, not two. The person interpreting the scan is the same person managing the treatment plan, rather than two professionals working from a written report between them.

Gynaecological and Fertility Sonography

Pelvic Sonography

Pelvic sonography examines the uterus, ovaries and surrounding pelvic organs. It is used to investigate conditions such as fibroids, ovarian cysts, PCOD or unexplained pelvic pain. Dr. Mahadar performs this scan during the same consultation where the symptoms are first discussed, so findings inform the treatment plan immediately.

Follicular Study

A follicular study tracks the growth of ovarian follicles across a menstrual cycle through a series of scans, timed a few days apart, to identify the most fertile window for conception or to time treatments such as IUI or ovulation induction. Because Dr. Mahadar performs each scan personally, the timing of the next scan can be adjusted based on how a cycle is actually progressing.

Pregnancy Scans by Trimester

> First Trimester, up to 12 Weeks

Dating Scan.

A dating scan, usually done between 6 and 9 weeks, confirms the pregnancy is inside the uterus, checks for a single or multiple pregnancy and estimates the due date from the baby’s measurements. Dr. Mahadar performs this scan at the same visit as the first booking consultation.

NT Scan.

The NT, or nuchal translucency, scan is done between 11 weeks and 13 weeks 6 days and measures the fluid at the back of the baby’s neck as part of first-trimester screening for chromosomal conditions. It is combined with a blood test for a fuller risk assessment, which is one reason early antenatal booking matters.

> Second Trimester, 13 to 26 Weeks

Anomaly Scan.

The anomaly scan, generally done between 18 and 20 weeks, examines the baby’s organs, spine, limbs and growth in detail to check for structural abnormalities. This is usually the longest scan of the pregnancy. Dr. Mahadar reviews the findings directly with the patient at the same visit rather than sending a report to be explained later.

> Third Trimester, 27 Weeks Onward

Growth Scan.

A growth scan tracks the baby’s weight, size and amniotic fluid level, usually from the third trimester onward or earlier if a specific concern is being monitored. Repeated growth scans are often needed for high-risk pregnancies such as diabetes or hypertension. Performing them in-house means results are available immediately.

Doppler Scan.

A Doppler scan measures blood flow through the umbilical cord, the baby’s blood vessels and the mother’s uterine arteries, which helps assess whether the baby is receiving adequate oxygen and nutrients. It is generally used alongside a growth scan in high-risk or later pregnancies.

> 3D/4D Scan

A 3D or 4D scan creates a more detailed, lifelike image of the baby’s face and features than a standard 2D scan, generally done in the second or third trimester when there is enough room and fluid around the baby for clear images. It is usually an additional scan rather than a replacement for the dating, NT, anomaly or growth scans.

What to Expect During Your Scan

  • Hydration for early scans. A full bladder generally gives a clearer image for early pregnancy scans, so drinking water beforehand is usually advised.
  • Comfortable clothing. Loose clothing that allows easy access to the abdomen makes the scan quicker and more comfortable.
  • Scan duration. Most scans take between 15 and 30 minutes depending on what is being examined.
  • Same-visit results. Images and findings are discussed with Dr. Mahadar at the same visit, not sent separately.
  • Bring previous reports. Carry earlier scan reports if this is a follow-up, so results can be compared directly.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where can I get same-visit sonography in PCMC?

Shrusti Total Womens Care Clinics in Thergaon offers sonography performed personally by Dr. Nikhil A. Mahadar, MRCOG (UK), during the same consultation rather than through a separate diagnostic centre appointment.

What is the difference between a dating scan and an NT scan?

A dating scan, done around 6 to 9 weeks, confirms the pregnancy and estimates the due date. An NT scan, done between 11 and 13 weeks 6 days, screens for chromosomal conditions by measuring fluid at the back of the baby’s neck. Both happen in the first trimester but check different things.

When is the anomaly scan done and what does it check?

The anomaly scan is generally done between 18 and 20 weeks and examines the baby’s organs, spine, limbs and growth in detail to check for structural abnormalities.

What is a follicular study used for?

A follicular study tracks ovarian follicle growth across a menstrual cycle through repeated scans, used to identify the fertile window for conception or to time treatments such as IUI or ovulation induction.

Does the same doctor perform and explain the scan?

Yes. Dr. Mahadar performs every scan personally and explains the findings during the same consultation, rather than referring the scan to a separate technician or centre.

What is the fee for a sonography visit?

The consultation fee is ₹500 per visit. Call ahead to confirm whether any additional scan charge applies for the specific scan needed.
